HAPPY NEW YEAR!

“There are years that ask questions, and years that answer.” — Zora Neale Hurston

This year I learned so much about myself and realized what I truly want in life. Cheers to a wonderful 2014 and the anticipation of what’s to come in this new year.

Thank you to each and every one of you that follow me through my journey, I am forever grateful.

MIA.

I’ve been absent from my blog for a little over two weeks, it wasn’t my intention to take such a long hiatus but life happens. Lately I’ve just really needed a break from it all. At times we get so busy with our daily routine and forget that we should be looking to overcome that routine and try to reach higher. I have so much I wish to accomplish and all the excuses stop right here…

On a brighter note I just returned from A quick trip to Miami for my sisters 30th. It was an all girls trip and I had such a great time. I brought my camera with me to shoot and forgot the battery so I didn’t get to shoot as I had planned but did get a few snaps on my iPhone. You can see a bunch of these photos on my Instagram but I thought I’d share some on here…

Back soon!

Home Decor: Living Room

I’ve been meaning to post this for quite some time but somehow I never got to it. I posted an update on my home a few months back and thought I would make it into a series of some sort. I snapped some photos of my living room when I had completed it for the most part. Of course every room in your home is never really complete, you always want to add to it or change up a few things each season but right now I’m pretty satisfied with it. I do want to add a painting or statement piece for behind the couch and also change the hideous lamp that my boyfriend refuses to get rid of but I figured you guys can come along with me and see my apartment transform.

For those of you uninterested in home decor, there will be a new outfit post up on wednesday. I’m trying to create a schedule for this blog (wish me luck). Anyway lets get to it…

I never got to take a before picture of the living room but let me just paint a quick picture for you — It had beige walls, brown carpet, and ugly furniture to match. I definitely knew the flooring and paint color had to go so we painted it this gorgeous gray and put down wood floors. This made a huge difference in the space, it immediately felt more clean and open. I then started shopping for furniture. I knew I wanted a cowhide rug so I went on the hunt! They can be really expensive.. even the ones at Ikea run you about $200 which is pricey if you are buying all your furniture from scratch. So I went on craigslist and found a couple selling theirs for $100, I made an offer of $80 and they accepted; I was ecstatic. After that everything just fell into place. The couch was found at Bob’s discount furniture, I had actually wanted this one in charcoal gray but they said it would take up to 20 weeks for me to receive it. That was too long of a wait so I settled on this beige color, I love it but I am so careful with it because its so light.

One piece of advice when moving into your first apartment is to always look for pieces of furniture you want on places like craigslist, ebay and yard sales. You can definitely find some gems for a great price. Another thing to definitely consider is offers from family members, my boyfriends sister had this table set sitting in her basement and offered it to us. It’s the perfect size and we didn’t have to spend a dime. As for the coffee table I am still on the hunt for a leather trunk but this will have to suffice. I will link to where you can find all these pieces below.

Dining Set: Ikea / Sofa: Bob’s Discount Furniture / Coffee Table: Ikea / Striped Throw Blanket: Ikea / Pillows: Target / Cowhide Rug: Similar here

WHERE I’VE BEEN. . .

Feels like forever since the last time I blogged. I’ve been in apartment mode. My boyfriend and I moved in together  as well as my youngest sister and it’s been utter chaos. We’ve been ripping out floors and replacing them with wood, painting cabinets, building a closet amongst other things. I’m exhausted to say the least but the journey will all be worth it in the end.

Decorating has been fun! I just wanted to share a quick post to show you some areas around the apartment that have been complete.

In the bathroom I put a fresh coat of paint, added some shelves and reused some pictures I had in my old bedroom — plus some fresh flowers.

I finally finished all of the bones to my walk in closet/office. This is the sneak peek I shared earlier this week on instangram. I’m in love with it, just gotta finish putting my clothes in it.

I found this gorgeous bar cart at Target on clearance for $65. I’ve been looking for one of these for so long and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it for that price! Such a great find.

And lastly here are some pretty flowers that are on my dining table.

By no means is my apartment complete but it is coming together and I am so excited to share some more decor posts with you all.

Until next time xx

Goodbye 2013!

No fancy photos we’re taken last night because let’s face it everyone just wanted to have a good time… But here’s what I wore:

Dress – Nasty Gal / Shoes – Nine West (Now on sale!) / Earrings – Forever 21

It has been such an amazing year! I can’t believe another year has come and gone. I’ve learned so much and have had so many new experiences, I’m glad I can end the year on a good note. So much work has been put into my blog throughout 2013 and I cannot wait for all that 2014 will have to offer. I want to say how thankful I am for all of the support I’ve received. Let’s welcome 2014 with open arms!

Cheers to new beginnings!

WHAT TO GET THE GALS IN YOUR LIFE?

Gift Guide 2013

Zara Scarf / Cole Hann Gloves / Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette / Diptyque Votive Candles / Henri Bendel Cup & Saucer / Givenchy Hot Couture / Zara City Bag / Polar FT40 Watch / Deborah Lippmann Starlight Set

Giving gifts gifts is something you should be happy to do, but sometimes it can become difficult to decide what to buy. Here’s some inspiration for those of you who need some help… And all of these items are around $100 or less!!!

For the fashionista:

– Scarves and gloves can be a great way to go! Pick a print for a scarf that you think the person might like. Right now plaid is very in so any scarf with this design would be perfect, add some matching gloves and it’s the perfect gift!

– You can also never go wrong with a bag, girls love bags. I love this one from Zara — the grey is a great neutral and it is just the right size to fit anything a girl might need.

For the homebody:

– Candles are always a good option, and for the girl who loves her house or room to smell luxurious I would definitely recommend this set from Diptyque. They smell amazing and they look pretty too.

– Anything from Henri Bendel is fabulous but I love this cup and saucer set. It is so cute! And any girl who drinks tea or coffee would be so happy to receive this.

For the beauty lover:

– The infamous Marc Jacobs lolita palette is probably on every beauty lovers wish list. It is filled with the perfect neutral eyeshadows and encased in such sleek and beautiful packaging.

– Deborah Lippmann’s starlight nail polish set is a nail polish lovers dream, this brand can be very pricey when purchased individually but to receive it as a gift in this set is amazing.

– Perfume! Basically everyones sense of smell is different. My favorite just so happens to be Hot Couture from Givenchy, I fell in love with scent when I was 16 and I’ve worn it ever since. Even though buying a perfume can be difficult; if you have a sense of what the person likes than I think this is a great gift.

For the health nut:

– If the gal you’re buying for is very health conscious and goes to the gym a lot then this might be a winner. The Polar FT40 watch can monitor your heart rate, keep track of calories and stores your workout history.

What’s on your holiday wish list?

Back soon,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just finished cooking and I’m about to start getting dolled up for the day. I just wanted to spread a little love and say how thankful and grateful I am to everyone that has supported me in life in general but more recently with my blog. I have been working so hard on this for a while and I really appreciate all of the love that everyone has shown.

In the next few weeks I plan to post some holiday makeup tutorials, outfit posts and possibly even some DIY projects. So stay tuned for all that’s to come!
Thank you for your awesome feedback on this new venture of mine.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

SATURDAAAZE

What a beautiful weekend it’s been! I think summer has made a comeback… It was just last weekend I had on a leather jacket and today I had on shorts. I can’t complain, as excited as I am for falls arrival; summer is still my favorite season.

Anyway today I went out for brunch at a spot called Lodge in Brooklyn. The food was great but the portion sizes were huge!

I had the french toast with berries, delish.

And here is what I wore…

Top: H&M

Shorts & Shoes: Zara

Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
